Lot Description

Late Victorian silver mounted glass vanity jar of cylindrical form with plain silver collar, the hinged cover with floral, scroll and foliate pierced top and opening to reveal a gilded interior and screw on silver gilt lid, silver hallmarked Sampson Mordan & Co., London 1898;  together with a further glass vanity jar with embossed silver detachable lid depicting the Five Graces, hallmarked Deakin & Francis Ltd., Birmingham 1905, and a later silver mounted clothes brush, hallmarked Birmingham 1954.  (3).

All three items display general wear, tarnishing and surface marks and scratches.  The interior of the Victorian glass jar is very dirty and there are some minor rim nicks to the base rim.  Hinged cover is in good working order.  There is some wear to the gilding and contact marks.  Full hallmarks and part hallmarks to the interior of cover are clear and legible.  Screw on lid is also hallmarked.  The other glass jar displays various rim and edge nicks.  The silver cover is very tarnished and has some minor surface dints.  Hallmarks are legible.  The silver mount to the brush is also quite tarnished with various small nicks and dints around the edge.  Hallmarks clear and legible.
