Lot Description

Early twentieth century silver Masonic trophy cup of campana form with lobed decoration to the bulbous lower body, raised above a short knopped stem and  circular footed base with a conforming lobed border, the main body applied with an enamelled badge for 'Ad Astra Lodge No 3808, the reverse with presentation inscription.  Hallmarked Birmingham 1917, maker's mark R.S, also impressed Spencer London.  Height measures 6 1/2 inches (16.5 cm), gross weight 9.69 ozt (301.5 grams).


Inscription reads 'Presented by the Brethren of the Ad Astra Lodge No 3808 to Lt Col. R.K. Bagnall- Wild. R.E., First W.M. 1917-1918 in token of their appreciation.'

Cup displays general wear, tarnishing and surface marks and scratches.  Some deeper scratches in places and some minor nicks in the metal, especially to edges.  Enamelled badge is a little loose in its fixing.  Main hallmarks are very rubbed and distorted  but just about legible.
