Lot Description

Great War, casualty Military Medal Group to L/Cpl R Jeffrey, Machine Gun Corps, formerly Royal Highlanders, comprising Military Medal (to 24486 L/Cpl R Jeffrey), 1914 star, War and Victory Medal (to 1538 Cpl R Jeffery, 1/5 R Highlandrs).

Robert Jeffrey was born as Robert Jaffray on 7^th October 1896 at Brechin (Forfarshire), the son of a millworker. He enlisted there into D Company, the Black Watch, and volunteered for overseas service in November 1914. At the time of his death he was serving with 154^th Company Machine Gun Corps. His MM was gazetted on 18^th June 1917, and he died of wounds in Flanders on 23^rd November 1917, aged 21. He is buried at Rocquigny-Equancourt Road British Cemetery, Manancourt, France.
