Lot Description

MURRLE BENNET - a 9ct gold swallow bar brooch set with split pearls, together with an associated late 19th century garnet and split pearl mourning brooch. Lengths 4 to 3.2cms.

Postage: Auction Default

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

The swallow brooch is in a fair condition, there is adhesive visible around four of the split pearls, one split pearl is cracked down the centre, the others show some blemishes. Pin in good working order. It has light surface scratches.

To the garnet and split pearl brooch, the split pearls are mostly unevenly set, they all show surface blemishes and one has a crack down the centre. The garnets are not that well matched. The back of the brooch show various patches of lead solder, suggesting although all the pieces are of a similar age, parts from two items of jewellery have been used to make this brooch and the brooch attachment has been added later, the pin is a replacement but is in working order.
