Lot Description

A late 19th century 18ct gold reverse carved rock crystal robin brooch. The oval-shape rock crystal carved and painted to depict a robin on a branch with foliate detail, within a woven branch and bead surround. Length 2.6cms.

The lot is in good overall condition with scratches and small dents in keeping with general wear. The clasp, pin hinge and pin are later replacements and are all different coloured metals, some possibly base metal. The back plate has lifted slightly probably when the replacement hinge was applied. The painting has minor losses, notably to the robins tail feathers and legs. The intaglio is slightly loose within the mount, the mount is slightly dented. Total weight 6.3gms.
