Lot Description

A selection of four Victorian mourning brooches, circa 1880, to include a rectangular-shape woven hair panel and split pearl brooch, an oval-shape woven hair panel and floral embossed brooch, together with two further brooches of similar design. Lengths 2.2 to 2cms.

Overall condition fair. There are scratches and areas of discolouration to all brooches. The one brooch has considerable wear to the gold plating to the reverse. The floral embossed brooch has a replacement hinge and catch with visible lead solder, the scroll embossed detail appears considerably worn. There are further replacement fittings to another brooch. The safety chain loop to one is damaged. The split pearls to the cluster brooch are grey in colour, there are scratches to the nacre in places. There is dirt visible to some of the woven hair panels.
