Lot Description

A World War II Japanese katana sword. The curved steel blade with impressed number 116715, and oval tsuba formed as imitation ropework and shagreen, overall length 38", (96.5cm), together with a wakisashi sword, the curved steel blade with gilt decorated shaped bronze tsuba, the removable handle revealing impressed character marks, 33", (85cm) (A/F), (2).

Katana - heavy paint loss. Surface scratches and wear to handle and scabbard. Tip of blade possibly shortened. Minor chipping to edge of blade. Pitting to blade.
Wakisashi - Pommel of handle is missing. Ropework/braiding from handle incomplete - shagreen missing. Handle is also split. Lacquer work to scabbard has losses and splits. Blade possibly shortened. Chipping to edge of blade. Pitting and rusting to blade.
