Lot Description

Continental silver and enamel box of rectangular form, decorated to the hinged lid with a woman and two children in a rural landscape, blue guilloche enamel to the sides and with gilded interior.  Struck with two 'swan' marks each in an oval punch, possibly the French Import mark, also struck 935 alongside a further mark of a six pointed star in an oval cartouche.  Measuring 4 3/8 inches (11 cm) by 2 7/8 inches (7.3 cm).

The box displays general surface scratches, marks and wear commensurate with the age and use.  Some deeper scratches and minor nicks are visible.  There is a larger chip in the enamel to one of the front corners on the lid.  There is also a small chip in the blue enamel on one of the rounded corners of the base.  The underside is quite tarnished.  There are several dark marks to the interior.  The struck marks are located on the inner flange on both sides and are legible.
