Lot 78

Lot Description

Early twentieth century silver pair of candlesticks, each modelled as a classical Doric column below a detachable nozzle with a shaped beaded rim, the stepped square base with conforming beaded border decoration.  Hallmarked  Hawksworth Eyre & Co Ltd., Sheffield, possibly 1909 (filled bases and AF).  Height with nozzle measures 7 inches (18 cm).

Postage: Auction Default

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

Candlesticks are in poor condition.  Both display general wear, surface marks and scratches and nicks.  Both also display numerous small surface dints.  There are several holes, cracks and splits in the metal all over and especially to the edges of the Doric columns.  On one of the candlesticks, the splits and cracks are particularly bad, with whole sections lifting or missing.  Part hallmarks to nozzles are clear but the main hallmarks around the each base are partly distorted, especially the date letter.
