Lot Description

An unusual 19th century French Empire-style oak-cased mantel clock. Achille Brocot, (1817-1878). The convex polished black slate dial with gilt Roman numerals, the hands formed as a snake or serpent, within cast ormolu palm branches forming a wreath, a further bronze snake intertwined within, the two-train bell-striking movement with spirally-cut pendulum Slow-Fast adjusting arm, the backplate stamped "5-5 Brocot BREVETE", the balloon-form case with concave dial aperture on brass ogee bracket feet, 9.5", (24cm) high.
