Lot Description
George II cast silver taperstick by John Cafe, raised on a sexfoil shell base interspersed with floral details, rising to the baluster column and detachable nozzle, each conforming in design. Hallmarked to the underside of the base only, John Cafe London 1751. Height measuring 5 1/4 inches (13.5 cm), weight 5.6 ozt (175 grams).

Condition Report
The lot displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. Some rubbing to the decoration and loss of definition, particularly to the centre of the stem. Also a small repair along to the centre of the stem. Some small cracks to the surface of the silver. No hallmarks or part hallmarks to the detachable sconce. The hallmarks to the underside are distorted, particularly the maker's mark.
