Lot 7

Lot Description

Early Georgian silver cream jug, of bulbous form with shaped rim, leaf capped scroll handle and raised above three stylised paw feet.  Hallmarked London, probably 1755.  Maximum height 4 1/8 inches (10.5 cm). weight 2.38 ozt (74.2 grams).

Postage: Auction Default

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

The cream jug displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use.  Heavier tarnishing is visible and it would benefit from a clean and polish.  A large surface dint to one side and numerous smaller dints and bumps.  The feet are also pushed into the main body so that impressions are visible to the interior.  The hallmarks appear rubbed but legible, although the date letter is a little distorted.  The maker's mark is partly distorted, what looks like the letter 'B' is just visible.
