Lot Description

A late 19th century gold micro mosaic set. The brooch of oval-shape outline, with carved shell flowers and micro mosaic floral spray inlaid to the black onyx, within a detailed rope-twist surround, together with matching earrings, pendant and brooch. Length of brooch 4.6cms. Length of earrings 1.4cms. Length of pendant and brooch 2.3cms. Weight 46.1gms. With fitted case.

Overall condition fair. There are scratches to the brooch in keeping with the age of the brooch. There is a replacement panel, where a jump ring has been re attached. Stamped IB 18c to reverse. The back pin and catch is secure. There are some areas of abrasion to the mosaic detail. The other items within this set appear to have originally been a pair of long ear pendants, the original drops have been turned into a brooch and a pendant, the tops of the earrings are still in their original form, with the bottom loop removed. There are some chips to the edging of the black onyx of the earrings, there is abrasion to some of the mosaic detail. The brooch fitting and pendant attachment to the smaller examples have been added at a later date. Please see the Important Notices for Purchasers in our catalogue for coloured gemstones.
