Lot Description

A late 19th century diamond star brooch. The old-cut diamond, within a rose-cut diamond sixteen ray surround, to the associated detachable bar brooch. Principal diamond estimated weight 0.45ct, tinted colour, P1 clarity. Diameter of star 2.8cms. Weight 7.2gms.

Total lot weight: No

Overall condition fair. The brooch appears to have been completely rhodium plated and would have probably originally been yellow gold, with a possible silver fronting. The central diamond is drawing colour, there are some black inclusions beneath the table facet visible with the unaided eye. The rose-cut diamonds are bright, there are chips to several visible with magnification, individual size and/or setting prevents accurate colour/clarity assessment.

The back fitting is not original and is attached, by a back screw fitting.
