Lot Description

A Portuguese beaker by Antonio Firmo da Costa, circa 1800, of plain tapering form, engraved with a crest of an arm embowed holding three arrows, above the inscription 'R.G.Q 3.' Stamped to the underside with the maker's mark AFC for Antonio Firmo da Costa and a crowned L for Lisbon. Height measuring 3 1/2 inches (9 cm), weight 6.2 ozt (193 grams).

The lot displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. The circular form a little misshapen. Two dents to the bottom rim, minor dints to the body. Discolouration and debris to the interior. Definition to the crest has rubbed a little. Small acid test to the underside. Maker's mark clear to the underside, Lisbon mark partly rubbed.
