Lot 385

Lot Description

A George III silver berry spoon, embossed fruit decoration to the bowl leading to floral, foliate and scroll motifs to the stem and terminal, hallmarked with lion passant and maker's mark only, partly obscured but probably Thomas & William Chawner (1762-1767). Together with a George III silver tablespoon in plain Old English pattern, hallmarked Hester Bateman, London 1781. Combined weight 4 ozt (124.8 grams). (2).

Postage: Auction Default

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

Both spoons display general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use.  The berry spoon displays heavier tarnishing and would benefit from a clean and polish.  Deeper scratches and nicks are visible to both spoons.  The spoon bowls have faired quite well, some minor bumps and more wear around the edges and tips.  Some slight loss of detail to decoration on the berry spoon.  Marks on berry spoon are partly distorted.  Maker's mark on table spoon is slightly rubbed but otherwise the hallmarks are clear and legible.
