Lot Description

A late Victorian silver rattle, the floral embossed and chased body, with coral branch teether and whistle, suspending six bells. Hallmarked for Birmingham. Length 4 13/16 inches (12.3 cm). Gross weight 1.21 ozt (37.8 grams).

Fair to good overall condition with scratches, dents and tarnish in keeping with age and use. Three bells deficient, one suspension loop for bell also deficient. Bells with small-medium dents, one torn. Hallmarks very worn, Victoria duty mark and Anchor mark legible, rest including Maker's mark illegible, rubbed. Coral mount shows tears and small dents. Coral untested for natural colour origin. The coral is a mottled pinky orange hue. Polyp holes and minor discolouration.
