Lot 673

Lot Description

A Victorian silver mounted paper knife, with a painted porcelain handle with central cartouche containing painted flowers, and personal engraving to the base of the blade. Hallmarked London 1880, the maker probably F B Thomas & Co (Francis Boone Thomas). Length including handle 13 1/4 inches (33.7 cm).

Postage: Auction Default

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

The knife displays general surface scratches, marks and wear commensurate with the age and use.  There is some quite heavy tarnishing to the blade, ferrule and terminal.  More wear and rounding to the tip of the blade, and some heavier scratches.  It is also quite loose in its fitting so that it swivels round.  The condition of the porcelain handle appears to be fairly good.  The hallmarks to the blade are clear and legible, maker's mark a little distorted.
