Lot 796

Lot Description

A George III silver vinaigrette of rounded oblong form, decorated to the lid with a dual palm tree design on a stippled background, stippled borders to the sides and underside, opening to reveal a silver-gilt diamond shape pierced grille. Hallmarked Cocks & Bettridge, Birmingham 1806. Length 2.6 cm, weight 9.9 grams.

Postage: Auction Default

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

The vinaigrette displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use.  A little bit more wear around edges, also some wear and dark marks to the interior gilding.  Hinges are in working order, however the grille is a very tight fit and quite hard to open.  Some rubbing and slight distortion to hallmarks but they are still legible.
