Lot Description

A late 19th century 15ct gold garnet and split pearl floral locket. Of circular-shape outline, the split pearl, within a pear-shape garnet petal surround, set to the textured panel and engraved reverse. French assay marks. Length 3cms. Weight 6.2gms.

Overall condition good to fair. Surface scratches and discolouration in keeping with general wear. The split pearl is a creamy-white with moderate lustre. Without the aid of laboratory equipment, it has not been possible to determine if these cultured pearls are from a fresh or saltwater source. The almandine garnet are a well matched reddish-purple with good clarity, there are moderate to minor scratches, chips and abrasion to these stones.
