Lot Description

An Irish George III 8-day brass dial walnut, yew wood and marquetry longcase clock. Charles Morgan, Dublin, circa 1780. The 13 inch square dial having a silvered chapter ring engraved 'Chas.Morgan/Dublin', with Roman hours and Arabic minutes framing a diaperwork centre with recessed silvered subsidiary seconds dial over calandar crescent, all within mask spandrels, the knopped four pillar movement striking on a bell, the case with flat hood, blind fretwork frieze and stop-fluted Corinthian capitals over inlaid break-arched trunk door with figured yew panels, chevron inlay cushion-moulded lenticle and surround, within conforming front over similar base and ogee bracket feet, 91", (231cm) high.

Dial - silvered chapter ring tarnished. Centre needs a clean. Some tarnish and brass surround. Movement - needs a clean and overhaul. Case - missing finials. Cracks to hood. Minor bowing and some cracking to sides of trunk. Trunk door is lose; an 8" section of moulding missing to upper right, another 4" missing to lower left. Cracks to base. Ogee feet shortened. 2 x weights, pendulum and winder.
