Lot Description

A Commonwealth/Charles II West Country silver Apostle spoon, the oval bowl prick engraved to the reverse 'DC' over 'ML 1662', traces of gilding to the Apostle terminal with sacred dove nimbus. Hallmarked Exeter, struck to the inner bowl, no further marks. Length measuring 7 5/8 inches (19.5 cm), weight 1.9 ozt (60.8 grams).

Overall the spoon appears in pleasing condition. Some expected rubbing with loss of definition to the Apostle, bowl and details of the spoon. Some detail to the Apostle terminal remains. Traces of gilding, predominately to the terminal. Exeter mark to the inner bowl is legible but heavily rubbed, no further hallmarks, maker's mark visible. Minor dints. There is a little wear to the bowl edges. Personal engraving to the bowl reverse remains clearly legible.
