Lot Description

An Edwardian silver purse of shaped outline and decorated to the front with ribbon tied swag motifs, opening to a faux silk lined interior with compartments and a further silver mount, hallmarked Henry Matthews, Birmingham 1907, the interior mount hallmarked Chester 1907, same maker. Together with a silver plated mesh purse, a base metal mesh purse, a small gilt metal mounted tortoiseshell purse and a base metal chatelaine. (5).

In varied state with all the items in the lot displaying general wear including surface scratches, marks and some quite heavy tarnishing. Several dints and bumps to the silver purse. The hinge and clasp appear in working order but a gap remains when in the closed position. Some tears and discolouration to the material lining. The hallmarks appear slightly rubbed in places but are still legible.  Small holes in mesh purses and the silver plated example does not close properly. The chatelaine is in poor condition with breaks and rust. Small edge chips and some deeper scratches and marks to the tortoiseshell. Small holes in the material lining.
