Lot Description

A late Victorian silver caddy of lobed and bulbous form, with gadroon rim above an embossed band of floral, foliate and scroll motifs, the hinged lid with conforming decoration to the domed centre and with flame finial, the whole raised on four paw feet. Hallmarked Thomas Hayes, Birmingham 1900.
Maximum height including finial measures 3 3/4 inches (9.5 cm), weight 5.58 ozt (173.5 grams).

Total lot weight: No

The caddy displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. Some dints and bumps. One end is very dull in appearance and displays some much heavier tarnishing, and there are possible repairs to some areas. Hinged lid appears in good working order. Some slight flattening of surface detail to some of the decoration, especially the gadroon rim around the base. Remnants of polish visible. The hallmarks appear rubbed but legible, also corresponding part hallmarks to lid.
