Great War Memorial plaque named to 'Ernest Walter Fulford'.


Believed to be for Sergeant Ernest Walter Fulford,103129 of the Royal Engineers, who was killed in action on the 5th of April 1918, France & Flanders. Shortly before his death records show that Fulford was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal originally listed in the supplement to the London Gazette on the 1st January 1918 and further listed on the 16th of April 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He displayed great courage and efficiency in action, and always instilled into the men under his charge a spirit of cheerfulness and courage under very trying conditions.'
