Lot 43

Lot Description

A mid-Victorian silver Pineapple goblet, heavily embossed decoration throughout with twin-opposed cartouche, one containing an engraved family crest depicting a wheat sheaf above the motto 'Dum Spiro Spero' (While I breathe, I hope), the other with engraving worn away, raised on a globular knopped stem and spread circular foot. Hallmarked Edward Ker Reid, London 1865. Height measures 9 inches (23 cm), weight 16.26 ozt (505.8 grams).

Postage: Auction Default

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

The goblet displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. Very heavy tarnishing to the interior and the whole would benefit from a clean and polish. Some slight knocks/dints, some are visible to the cartouche. The family crest engraving is a little worn but still clearly visible. The engraving on the other cartouche is almost completely worn away. The goblet leans very slightly to one side. It also wobbles a little. The rim is slightly misshapen. The hallmarks are clear and legible.
