Lot Description

An eighteenth century box, possibly Irish provincial, the oval body with detachable lid embossed with a crest above the motto 'Dum Spiro Spero'. Marked to the underside with a castle, possibly Cork and the maker's mark CB. Maximum length measuring 3 1/2 inches (9 cm), weight 3.7 ozt (118 grams).

The box and cover display general surface scratches, marks and wear in keeping with the age and use. Also some quite heavy tarnishing to certain areas. Surface dints and bumps. Large solder repairs visible around the base rim. There are a couple of holes through the helmet of the embossed decoration to the lid. Some slight flattening to areas of the embossed decoration. The lid appears unmarked.
