Lot 766

Lot Description

An early Victorian silver vinaigrette, the oblong form with engine-turned decoration, scalloped rim and opening to a scroll pierced hinged grille. Hallmarked Edward Smith, Birmingham 1844. Length measuring 3 cm, 13.6 grams.

Postage: Auction Default

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

The vinaigrette appears in quite a tarnished state with a large darker patch to the interior, and it would benefit from a clean and polish. There is some general wear, surface scratches, nicks and marks, commensurate with the age and use. Small pressure indent to the top, just above the vacant name panel. The hinges feel a little loose but are in working order. Hinges to grille also in working order although the grille is quite a tight fit. Some small losses to pierced section of grille. Some slight distortion to hallmarks but mainly clear and legible.
