Lot Description

A mid Victorian memento mori coffin fob. The fob in the shape of a coffin with applied skull and crossbones, the button at the end of the coffin releasing the lid and revealing a skeleton within, together with a watch key set with hardstone and suspended from a black ribbon with foliate engraved buckle. Length of fob 5.5cms. Weight 20.3gms.

Condition Report

The condition of this lot is fair to good. The metal, gems and ribbon all have visible signs of wear consistent with age. The spring mechanism to the skeleton is functioning cleanly. The lobster claw clasp and both terminals of the ribbon are stamped 18, with maker's marks M&M.
