Lot Description

A good group of African patinated ivory figures, probably Lega, Congo, 19th century, comprising nine figures in various standing, seated and haunched poses, each with stylised almond-shaped face with split navette-shaped eyes, some with exaggerated pointed forehead, one with conical headdress, some with markings to stomach (perhaps fertility figures), some on integral mound bases, seven with pleasing mellow amber-coloured patination, 2.25" to 10", (5.5cm to 25cm) high. (9).
Provenance: Ex Private Collection, Belgium (Congo was previously a Belgian colony).
