Lot 29

Lot Description

A George III provincial silver teapot, the compressed barrel form with scalloped rim, banded decoration and applied palmette motif to the scroll handle. Hallmarked John Robertson I, Newcastle 1799. Maximum length measures 11 inches (28 cm), gross weight 16.04 ozt (499 grams).

Postage: Auction Default

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

The teapot is in a tarnished state and would benefit from a clean and polish. Surface marks, scratches and numerous dints and bumps including some larger dents to one side. Very worn crest engraving to one side, which is now nearly illegible. Possible engraving removal to the opposing side. Several repairs around joins and seams, including around the spout and hinges to the lid. The hinged lid sits flush but there is some movement as it is quite loose. Part of the finial appears to be missing, replaced by a green plastic piece. Hallmarks are located to the underside and are clear and legible. There appear to be no further part hallmarks to handle or lid.
