Lot Description

An early twentieth century silver mounted purse of rounded rectangular form, engraved floral garland with ribbons to one side and opening to a compartmentalised faux silk lining, hallmarked Henry Matthews, Birmingham 1911. Together with a selection of other novelty items to include an Edwardian box in the form of a miniature coal scuttle, hallmarked Birmingham 1905, a silver and enamel rouge pot, Birmingham 1916, a small magnifying glass with propelling pencil handle, a silver mounted nail buffer and a 1960's small silver mounted hand mirror. In mixed state, all items in the lot displaying general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with their age and use, and to varying degrees. General dints and bumps and areas of heavier scratches and scuffs. The hinged lid and clasp of the purse appears in working order. The material lining appears quite dirty and discoloured. Torn and frayed lining to interior of coal scuttle box. Damage to the enamel on the rouge pot lid and it does not close properly. Possible replacement mirror plate to the hand mirror. The hallmarks are mainly legible but there is rubbing and distortion to some.
