Lot Description

A mid-Victorian silver bowl, the circular form embellished with embossed beading and shaped rim above a vacant cartouche, the whole raised on three satyr mask and scroll feet, hallmarked Henry Holland (of Holland, Aldwinckle & Slater), London 1875, maximum diameter measures 4 6/8 inches (12 cm). Together with a 1930's silver sauce boat, the plain oval form with scalloped rim and scroll handle, upon three shell mounted hoof feet, one deficient, hallmarked Elkington & Co Ltd., Birmingham 1933, stamped Elkington & Co, alongside registration number 32856 to the base, width measures inclusive of handle 4 7/8 inches (12.5 cm). Gross weight 6.1 ozt (192.2. grams). (2).

In good to condition, the lot displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. Some compression to the interior bowl from one foot. Solder repairs visible underneath the outer rim. Minor loss of definition to edges and decoration with remnants of polish evident. The sauce boat has one foot deficient and therefore does not stand flat. Hallmarks clear and legible.
