Lot Description

A late Victorian Art Nouveau silver twin-handled bonbon dish, of oval pierced form with floral and scroll motifs in relief upon a pedestal foot base, hallmarked Henry Matthews, Birmingham 1894, maximum width inclusive of handles measures 5 3/8 inches (13.2 cm). Together with a further silver bonbon dish, the oval form with scalloped rim and floral border, above pierced lattice interspaced by asymmetrical vacant cartouches, the whole raised on four openwork feet, hallmarked Elkington & Co Ltd., London 1900, width measures 6 inches (15 cm). Gross weight 4.1 ozt (128.7 grams). (2).

In good condition, the lot displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. Some remnants of polish visible within the decoration. Hallmarks clear and legible, some minor rubbing, the 'H' on the maker's mark on the Art nouveau example is pierced.
