Lot Description

A late George III silver mustard pot, the bellied form with foliate, shell and gadroon rim above an engraved family crest and lobed lower body to a footed base, conforming lobed detail to hinged lid and foliate chased decoration to handle, with a blue glass liner. Hallmarked Joseph Angell I, London 1818. Maximum length measuring 4 1/2 inches (11.5 cm), weight 5.53 ozt (172 grams).

The mustard pot displays general expected tarnishing and surface wear, marks and scratches commensurate with age and use. Minor surface dints, bumps and creases. A couple of holes in the lobed decoration. Some possible solder repairs. Rim folds down slightly. Knock to foot rim. Hinged lid is slightly out of alignment and raised on one side when in closed position. Hallmarks are quite heavily rubbed, some illegible, but part hallmarks to lid are clearly legible.
