Lot Description

A nineteenth century Dutch silver bachelor teapot, the compressed globular form ornately embossed with birds amongst flowers and foliage and surrounding a central faceted band, having a bird head spout, branch handle with ivory insulators and the hinged lid with conforming decoration and winged figurative finial. Dutch assay marks to base comprising Lion Passant, date letter, likely 1883, and a further indistinct mark. Length measuring 7 1/2 inches (19 cm), weight 7.55 ozt (235 grams).

The teapot displays general tarnishing, surface wear, marks and scratches commensurate with age and use. Some minor surface dints and bumps and a few holes in the decoration. Residues of polish. Handle is loose and missing fixing pin and requires attention. Hinged lid appears in good working although wobbles a little. Heavy staining to interior. Some distortion to assay marks, date letter is located to foot rim.
