Lot Description

A George IV silver vinaigrette, the rounded rectangular form with reeded sides and engine-turned decoration to hinged lid and base, the lid also with central vacant name panel, floral thumb-piece and opening to a gilded grille with foliate scroll piercing. Hallmarked Birmingham 1828, maker's mark TS, probably Thomas Shaw. Measuring 3.5 cm by 2.1 cm, gross weight 18 grams.

The vinaigrette appears in fairly good overall condition, displaying some general tarnishing, surface wear, marks and scratches consistent with age and use. Heavier wear around edges and corners and rubbing to the decoration with some loss of surface detail. Hinges appear in good working order. Some heavier tarnishing or staining around the edges of the interior base and lid. Hallmarks a little rubbed but still clearly legible. Grille is not hallmarked.
