Lot Description

An early Victorian silver vinaigrette, of oblong form, cross hatched decoration, vacant cartouche to the underside and opening to a silver-gilt interior with floral pierced grille. Hallmarked Edward Smith, Birmingham 1838. Length measuring 3.6 cm, weight 15.5 grams.

The vinaigrette displays general scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. Rubbing with loss of decoration. Main cover catching a little on the grille when opening and closing. Dints to edges. Crease and minor split above the hinge. Gilding discoloured. Hallmarks somewhat worn but legible.
