Lot Description

A selection of novelty items to include a George III silver caddy spoon, with stipple engraved decoration to the bowl and stem, hallmarked Samuel Pemberton, Birmingham 1804, length measures 3 2/8 inches (8.2 cm). Together with a late Victorian silver vesta case of plain oblong form, hallmarked Cornelius Desormeaux Saunders & James Francis Hollings (Frank) Shepherd, Birmingham 1892, a further Edwardian silver vesta case with engraved scrolls and fan, a 1920's plain silver matchbox holder, a silver cheroot holder and a pair of plated sugar tongs. Gross weighable silver 2.3 ozt (71.6 grams).

In varied state, the lot displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. The caddy spoon has become slightly bent and mis-shapen with a visible crease along the surface leading to minor splits to either edge, probable repairs, vacant cartouche to the terminal, lion passant and date mark over lap one another slightly, other hallmarks rubbed but legible. Minor bump to the Victorian vesta case, both vesta cases shut fully flush and hinges in working order. Cheroot holder has minor bumps and attached suspension ring, removable lid appears unmarked. The sugar tongs are marked EPNS. Hallmarks worn in places but still legible.
