Lot Description
A Victorian silver-gilt mounted glass claret jug, the ovoid shape clear glass body with applied ribbed glass handle and four applied shell motifs around the shoulder, with silver-gilt strap work style and studded mount to neck and domed hinged lid with beaded rim, further silver-gilt mount to footed base also with bead rim. Hallmarked Edward H Stockwell, assumed London 1871. Maximum height including finial measuring 10 1/2 inches (26.6 cm).

Condition Report
The jug displays general surface wear, marks and scratches commensurate with age and use. Considerable wear to the gilding of the silver mounts and they are all loose. Hinge lid appears in working order although a slight gap remains when in the closed position. Large internal cracks to the glass are visible in the neck. Hallmarked to various parts and all clearly legible. No assay mark visible.
