Lot Description

A mid-Victorian silver goblet, the circular bowl with silver-gilt interior and personal inscription amidst stylised floral engraving beneath a zigzag border, raised upon a knopped stem leading to a splayed engraved quatrefoil foot. Hallmarked Birmingham 1873, maker's mark worn probably Elkington & Co (Frederick Elkington). Height measures 6 1/8 inches (15.6 cm), weight 6.69 ozt (208.1 grams).

In good condition, the lot displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. Engraved 'Newbury Cat Club Champion Simzette Cup'. Remnants of polish visible and construction seam visible to the stem. Maker's mark worn probably Elkington & Co (Frederick Elkington), further marked 'Elkington & Co Manchester' to the edge of the foot and engraved 13488 to the interior of the base. Other hallmarks clear and legible.
