Lot Description

Three early golf clubs. Comprising: an aluminium putter, the head with incised signature beneath 'J Ball 7/6/12', with accompanying label "Early signed aluminium putter. Signed by John Ball 1861-1940. English Amateur Golfer. 8 x British Open Champion 1 x Open Champion (1890). Ball is the only Englishman to win the Open Championship as an amateur. He also won the British Amateur that year. World Golf Hall of Fame 1977", 35", (89cm) long; a wooden club, the head with horn fillet and brass plate to base, 44", (112cm) long, and a Lockwood-Brown 'rustless iron' sand wedge, 37", (94cm) long, (3).
Provenance: the first item acquired at a local golf club charity auction.
