Lot Description
A pair of late Victorian silver mounted candlesticks, each stepped and filled square base rising to a spiral twist stem and vase shape socket having stiff leaf decoration, with foliate bead rim to the removable nozzle and conforming borders to the base with personal inscription. Hallmarked Hawksworth, Eyre & Co Ltd (James Kebberling Bembridge), Sheffield 1891/92. Height measures 5 1/2 inches (14.2 cm).

Condition Report
In good overall condition, the lot displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. Where the socket meets the stem on one candlestick wobbles due to a significant repair, visible signs of solder to the outer decoration and filled to the interior of the stem, requires attention, some minor creases to the silver to the top of the socket. Each candlestick is engraved 'William Rowland Beatty Smyth From His Aunt Charlotte Smyth 20th March 1893' along the base edge, also marked with the retailer 'Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Company, 112, Regent St London' beneath the base. One nozzle and socket marked 10712, conforming partial hallmarks to both. Hallmarks clear and legible, one dated 1891, the other 1892.
