Lot Description

A pair of early George III silver open salts, each of plain cauldron form with ribbed rim and raised on three stepped hoof feet. Hallmarked David Mowden, London 1763. Rim diameter measuring 2 1/4 inches (5.7 cm), weight 2.42 ozt (75.3 grams).

Both salts display general expected tarnishing, surface wear, marks and scratches commensurate with age and use. Ribbed rims are very worn and very slightly misshapen. A few minor surface dints and bumps and dark spots of tarnishing to interior of both. Hallmarks are rubbed and a little distorted but still legible.
