Lot Description

A late Victorian gold diamond and gem-set insect brooch. The sapphire and conch pearl fly with ruby eyes and diamond wings, together with a pearl and diamond butterfly, to the pearl terminal pin. Length 6cms. Weight 4.2gms.

<li>Overall condition fair to good. Minor surface scratches/wear and minor dents, in keeping with general age and wear.

<li>Bar is slightly bent out of shape but still fastens correctly.

<li>Shows noticeable discolouration and dark markings.

<li>Possible alterations and/or replacement gemstones.

<li>Diamonds fairly well matched.

<li>Diamonds fairly bright.<p>

<li>Estimated total diamond weight under 0.10ct.<p>

<li>Individual size and setting of diamonds prevents accurate colour and clarity assessment.<p>

<li>Sapphire is a medium blue, well saturated, with good clarity, colour zoning and typical inclusions.<p>
<li>Sapphire is in good condition with minor surface abrasions.<p>

<li>Conch pearl is a pale pinkish colour with flame effect and some surface scratches.

<li>Seed pearls are a cream to grey colour with pink tints.

<li>Pearls untested for origin.
