An Oriental carved rootwood figure of an elder. Circa 1900, the bearded male modelled wearing a wide-brimmed hat and flowing robes, holding a gnarled staff in his left hand and a basket in his right, upon a naturalistic base, 10.25", (26cm) high.

Old loss to one side of hat brim. A few small losses to hem of cloak. Tight vertical split to right shoulder. Handle of basket loose where it joins right hand. Good colour and patination.
