Lot Description

For restoration: a good large pair of 19th century Chinese porcelain vases. Each of baluster form, the waisted neck decorated with a 'greek key' frieze and cloud motifs over fan-shaped panels of perching birds, scattered flowerheads and a lower frieze of stiff leaves on a hand-drawn blue diaperwork ground, the body with a finelt worked collar of flowers and scrolls over zoomorphic mask handles, further flowers and panels (including birds, and larger shaped panels of landscapes) with matching diaperwork ground, over lower lappet frieze and yellow ground base, turquoise ground beneath with Qianlong seal mark to each, 19.75", (50ocm) high, (both at fault), (2).

First has a triangular section of neck reattached - 5" wide x 3.5" deep., plus another 4" rim crack, and some rim losses at tops of these cracks.

Second has more extensive damage including rim losses, several reattached sections, significant cracks through panels etc.
