John Calcott Horsley, (1817-1903), Figures on a hillside gathered beneath a tree, a priest or doctor and a gentleman in tricorn hat in conversation with an elderly lady, she seated beside a young child with dog, a courting couple, and two further ladies, one with child, oil on canvas, signed and dated 1853 lower right, 24" x 32", (61cm x 81cm), in swept gilt frame, label of Haynes Fine Art of Broadway verso, (relined).
