Lot Description

An unusual oak and walnut two-stage food or dole cupboard. Probably Low Countries or France, mainly early 18th century, the upper stage (perhaps a panetiere) having a relief frieze of figures dancing to a musician playing a violin in a landscape, over a pair of cabinet doors with double spindle-turned bars framed by turned pendants, lunettes, navettes, stiff leaves or palmettes and scrolls,  enclosing a shelf, the lower stage with inverted breakfront top over two registers each with a pair of linenfold-carved doors, between split columns and arcaded side panels on plinth base, 30" x 16.5" x 73" high, (76cm x 42cm x 185.5cm).

Some parts late 19th century - namely blocks and finials to pediment, top of lower section ('shoe' holding upper section in place, plus inverted breakfront top), and carved plinth base. Main part is early 18th century.
Some wear around escutcheon to upper stage. Crack to lower stretcher of top stage (beneath left door). Later lock. Hole to arch of lower arcaded panel on left side. Evidence of old (inactive) worm to carcase. Otherwise general wear and signs of age.
