Lot 98

Lot Description

A late Victorian silver mounted inkstand, the curved oblong base with gadroon rim and raised on bun feet, fitted with central hinged compartment in between a pair of bulbous cut glass ink pots, each with silver mounted collar and flat hinged lid. Hallmarked Birmingham, probably 1894, maker's marks very worn but possibly Stokes & Ireland Ltd. Length of base measuring 8 7/8 inches (22.5 cm).

Postage: Not Postable

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

Inkstand displays general surface wear, marks and scratches and some minor surface dints. Silver parts are quite tarnished and would benefit from a clean and polish. Several ring marks around the fixing screws on the underside of the base. All three hinged lids appear in working order, although there is a solder repair to one of the glass bottle lids. The lid on the other bottle does not sit flush. Both the glass bottles should be removable, however one appears jammed in position. Edge chips and nibbles to glass bodies. Hallmarked to various parts and some marks are very rubbed and worn.
